Now the question is when does eternal life really start? There’s a common belief that life everlasting starts at the very moment a person dies physically. According to the wise King Solomon, when a person dies, his spirit leaves his physical body. He said, “So our bodies return to the earth, and the life-giving breath returns to God.” This implies that when a person dies, it is just his physical body that is gone. His spirit continues to live on and will start to live to eternity.

But this is the truth of the life everlasting – that eternal life starts the very moment you die to sin and live in Christ. What does this mean? The moment a person turns his back on sin and acknowledges the lordship of Jesus Christ and repents from his sins, he is already forgiven, saved, and provided access to eternal life. So, eternal life begins when you become a follower of Christ. Physical death is just a stopover. It does not happen after death, but on the very moment that Christ becomes your Lord.
