The third book of Numbers talks about the Levites, who were also numbered according to their families and given specific tasks by God. In the passage below, an example of a family being given their tasks by God is written. Numbers 3:27-32 reads:

“To Kohath belonged the clans of the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites and Uzzielites;these were the Kohathite clans. 28 The number of all the males a month old or morewas 8,600. The Kohathites were responsible for the care of the sanctuary. 29 The Kohathite clans were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle. 30 The leader of the families of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel. 31 They were responsible for the care of the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the articles of the sanctuary used in ministering, the curtain, and everything related to their use. 32 The chief leader of the Levites was Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest. He was appointed over those who were responsible for the care of the sanctuary.”

It is clear in the passage above that each member of the family of Kohath was to have his or her own role caring for the sanctuary, or the place of worship. They were to work together, doing their own share, in order to create and maintain a decent sanctuary.

The passage teaches us that cooperation is essential in order for us to arrive at results. Even though each member of the family has a specifically assigned task, the overall result will reflect the effort of the entire group.
