Some people have a mentality that for so long as no one is hurt or no damage is done unto another’s name, 5 overly anxious about his health does not want to worry her. Because he believes his intentions are good, he often lies to his wife regarding his health. He tells her he is in perfect condition, even though this is not true. He also often hides his visits to the doctor from her, making up excuses as to why he is leaving the house.

Even though the man did not bear any false witness against another person, and even though he did not do damage to another person’s name, he is still violating the 9th commandment. Despite the fact that his intentions are good, the means by which he achieves his goal is sinful. He is resorting to deceit instead of upholding God’s way, which is that of truth.

No matter what kind of form your lie may take, remember that it is still a lie, and a lie is always evil. You may have good intentions, but know that no act is justified based on intent alone. The end does not justify the means. Be strict in adhering to God’s law and make no exceptions. All forms of lying, no matter how well-disguised, are violations of the 9th commandment.
