The Epitome of Obedience

What does the epitome of obedience mean to you? Can you honestly say that you are an obedient child? Have you ever disobeyed your parents, even once? Have you ever argued or complained silently in your thoughts? It will not be a surprise if you did. Disobedience brought sin into man’s life. The Bible said,
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners.”

But Jesus was the opposite of Adam. Jesus was the epitome of obedience. In fact, His obedience was the reason why salvation and eternal life were made available to everyone who believes and accepts Him as Lord and savior. According to the Apostle Paul, “But Jesus obeyed him and will make many people acceptable to God.”

The obedience of Jesus Christ as the Son to God the Father was extraordinary. No one can ever match it. Jesus knew what will happen to him. Jesus knew that he will die. He knew that he will suffer a painful death. Jesus knew every detail of His death, from the betrayal of Judas, to the denial of Peter, up to the condemnation of many in front of Pontius Pilate. Jesus knew it all. And what did he do wrong to undergo that kind of bitter death? Nothing!

Jesus did nothing wrong yet God the Father allowed him to suffer for the sake of the disobedient and hopeless people of this planet. When everyone was so busy sinning, Jesus went down and lived on earth to bring salvation. But did Jesus ever complain? Did Jesus even use His power as the Son of God and prince of heaven to escape the penalty of sin of which He did not commit? No! Jesus was so humble when He prayed to God – “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Jesus obeyed the will of His Father in heaven and died on the cross for the salvation of mankind.

Imagine how painful it was for Jesus to accept the fact the He was sent on earth to rescue the disobedient and sinful creation of His Father? Put your feet inside Jesus’ shoes. Will you put your life on the line to save someone who did you wrong? Will you obey if your earthly father told you to risk your life for your neighbor who swindled your family’s entire savings? Of course not! But Jesus did. The Son obeyed God the Father without reservations and came to the rescue of the undeserving sinners of the world.
